This owl holds a special place in my heart because it is connected to my story of love and loss. In May 2023, I came to visit my beloved in Kramatorsk, a frontline city near Bakhmut. At that time, he was doing his military service in the area and had a short "vacation" - a few days that we could spend together. We settled in a rented apartment on the 5th floor and imagine our surprise when we went out on the balcony and saw a nest with owls in the crown of a tree, just near 3 meters away. At the time, we thought it was a sign that we would be okay. This did not happen, and 7 months later my beloved was lost near the same Bakhmut. But I still have the photos of the owls and the memories of those almost happy few days. That's why this picture contains happiness, grief, and memories of love. I hope you will be able to feel it when you look at it.

A Fluffy Ball of Mystery: The Long-eared Owl Chick
A Long-eared Owl chick is a bundle of soft, downy feathers, with large, expressive eyes that seem to peer into the world with wonder. These young owls are born blind and helpless, relying on their parents for warmth and nourishment. As they grow, their ear tufts, which give the species its name, begin to emerge, adding to their endearing appearance. These fluffy chicks will soon develop into skilled nocturnal hunters, equipped with exceptional hearing and silent flight.
